LITURGICAL MINISTRIES
1. ALTAR SERVERS
If you would like to volunteer to be an altar server you must be in the fourth grade or older. Adults are also welcomed to serve at the altar. There will be mandatory training sessions held periodically throughout the year. Please call the Parish Office ext. 100, and we will put you in touch with the coordinator. Thank you!
2. USHERS
Ushers are ministers of hospitality to the community. It is open to men and women who are interested. Ushers help with taking up the offering (collection), greeting people, escorting people to their seats, assisting the handicapped and other hospitality, please contact Ed Mahon through the Parish Office ext. 100
3. READERS (LECTORS)
Lectors make the Word of God come alive at Liturgiy. They are men and women who have the gift of public proclaimation. If you would like to consider proclaiming the Word of God at Mass or other liturgies, you need to have some public speaking skills and audition with Fr. Kevin or Mr. Bruno Multari. They will conduct training throughout the year. Please contact the Parish Office, ext. 100.
4. GREETERS
Our Greeters welcome people each Sunday as the enter Church. They help hand out any material (worship aids or bulletins) and offer hospitality on Community Sunday (the second Sunday of each month). If you would like to be a Greeter, please contact Kathy Hoffman by calling ext. 100.
5. EXTRAORDINARY MINISTERS OF THE EUCHARIST
Extraordinary Ministers of the Eucharist assist the priests and deacons in the distribution of Holy Communion. If you would like to be a Eucharistic Minister there is an application and itnerview process. EM's help at Mass and bring the Holy Eucharist to the homebound, Nursing Homes and Hospitals within the parish. This is a serious and wonderful ministry and one needs to be trained and attend semi'annual gatherings as well as keep to the shedule provided by the parish. 6. MUSIC MINISTRY
St. Augustine said, "Those who sing pray twice." If you would like to be a Cantor, sing in the Choir, the Children's Choir, play an instrument or take part in our many Music Ministries, please click the Music Ministry Section of our website or call Stephanie at ext. 105.
7. LITURGY COMMITTEE
Our Liturgy Committee meets almost every month to help prepare Masses, Liturgical Seasons, different Feast Days, and much other planning and input regarding Liturgy at St. Barnabas Parish. If you would like to be a part of the Liturgy Committee please call 732-269-2208 ext. 104.
SERVICE & SOCIAL MINISTRIES AND COMMITTEES
1. HOLY NAME SOCIETY
The purpose of the Society is to honor the name of Jesus and for the members to grow in personal holiness, to assist the parish, to support a foreign mission, and to attend Mass together each month. Membership is open to all men and women. Meetings are held on the 2ND Monday after the 1ST Sunday of the month at 8:00 PM starting with the Litany of the Holy Name in the chapel at 7:30 PM. Ext. 100
2. HOSPITALITY COMMITTEE
In an effort to increase a spirit of unity among all parishioners this group holds various social events that help new members to feel at home and all to get to know each other better. Welcome Sundays and Community Sundays are planned which will provide coffee and other refreshments once a month for those families that have recently registered in the parish. Other social gatherings are planned and provided by this committee. If you have a welcoming spirit you are needed.

3. KNIGHTS OF COLUMBUS
The Knights are a Catholic organization open to all men over18 years. They are dedicated to charity, unity, fraternity, patriotism, and Mary, the Mother of the Church. Their main goal is to promote service to the Church and help to those in need. The Council functions include support for Right to Life, the handicapped, those with special needs, seminarians, and devotion to the Rosary. They sponsor yearly functions such as funds for seminarians, scholarships for high school students, breakfast for altar servers, delivery of Thanksgiving Day needs, food drives, collection of eye glasses for the needy, monthly soup kitchen, and other family oriented activities. The Knights give all Catholic men an opportunity to strengthen their faith, their family, and willingness to serve their church. Yearly dues are $35.00. Meetings are held on the first and third Wednesday of each month in the spiritual center after the Rosary in the Chapel at 7:15 PM. 4. PARISH COUNCIL
The Parish Council functions as an advisory group to the pastor. It gives the parish representatives an opportunity to discuss agenda items presented by the pastor as well as concerns expressed by parishioners. Members of the Parish Council are appointed by the pastor and serve for three years. They work together to serve the needs of the parish. The Council meets monthly. There is a companion council on the diocesan level that meets with the Bishop four times a year. The Council is divided into sub-committees which reach out to every group in the parish. Ext. 104
5. ST. BARNABAS GOLDEN AGE GROUP
A new ministry has received an enthusiastic response from our seniors. They gather monthly from 1:00 PM to 3:00 PM on the 3rd Thursday of the month in Fr. Brennen Hall and enjoy creating various crafts, listening to special speakers, and taking occasional trips such as to the Surf Light Theater. If you are interested please contact Ext. 100
6. BARNABAS ACTIVE GARDENERS (BAGS)
The BAGs of St. Barnabas assist in the beautification of our parish campus by giving of their time and talent to plant and maintain flowers and fauna in assigned areas around the parish grounds. This provides a most welcoming and spiritually uplifting environment for our parishioners. "A garden is where the soul feels at home." The BAGs work in conjunction with the pastor and the maintenance department. They share a common vision for the parish grounds and work together in a spirit of fellowship and hospitality. The BAGs also help to maintain (water, weeding etc.) their assigned spots. We are old BAGs and young BAGs, male and female BAGs. It's a great way to give a little of your time, enjoy the beauty of nature, stay active, and serve the parish. PRAYER AND WORSHIP
1. ADORATION
The Blessed Sacrament is exposed for adoration in the Chapel from 7:00 AM to 7:00 PM from Monday to Friday. On weekends adoration ends at 12:00 NOON. Come and spend special time in the Sacramental presence of the Lord, it can change your life!. Ext. 313
2. CENTERING PRAYER SUPPORT GROUP
On Tuesday evenings from 7:00 to 8:00 PM in the Chapel this group meets to give support, practice, encouragement, and teachings about centering prayer. The group is associated with the International
Contemplative Outreach founded by Father Thomas Keating. All who wish to learn more about this form of prayer are welcome to join us.

3. OPEN DOOR PRAYER GROUP
This Charismatic group meets at 8:00 PM on Thursdays to praise and thank God for His many blessings. “Life in the Spirit” seminars are offered to anyone who wishes to learn more about living according to the promptings and in the power of the Holy Spirit. The door is open. All are welcome.

4. ROSARY ALTAR SOCIETY
The Rosary Society welcomes all women of the parish who wish to grow in their devotion and knowledge of the Blessed Virgin. A yearly calendar of activities is planned with a threefold focus: spiritual, ser-vice, and social. The women gather as a group at the 8:00 AM Mass on the first Sunday of the month and before each meeting to recite the Rosary in the Chapel. A day of recollection and a weekend retreat are part of the yearly schedule along with several social events. These women also take care of the altar linens, staff the religious article store, and sew the Baptismal bibs. Meetings are held on the first Monday after the first Sunday of the month in the spiritual center at 8:00 PM. Yearly dues are $5.00. Guests are welcome! Ext. 100
5. SMALL CHRISTIAN COMMUNITIES
These groups gather to share, learn, and encouraging each other to grow in their faith. The groups also suggest social and religious activities throughout the year that will foster a deepening of their personal faith commitment. The members assist in organizing these activities. They also coordinate and cooperate with the Diocesan Office for Small Christian Communities (SCC). Ext. 100
6. PARISH RETREATS
We offer in-house Parish Retreats several times each year. Anyone is welcome to come and experience this wonderful connection to God and the community through prayers, presentations and other stimulae. The retreats take place in Rucki Hall (the Religious Ed Center) Thursday & Friday evenings at 6pm (including dinner) and Saturday morning from 9-11am. Retreats are free of charge (a good will offering is taken). If you would like to learn more about our retreats, sign up for a retreat, or help out on a retreat team or hospitality, please call Mary at ext. 128. We try to offer these retreats at least 4 times each year. Come and see!
SOCIAL CONCERNS AND SOCIAL JUSTICE
1. CAREGIVERS OF CENTRAL OCEAN COUNTY, INC
This coalition has a mission to provide supportive homecare services to the frail, elderly, disabled, and the homebound. Volunteers enable our friends, neighbors, and parishioners to live independently in their own homes. Volunteers will then be trained by the Caregivers Organization. To participate all one needs is a caring, loving, and generous heart with a willingness to give non-medical support to homebound individuals.

2. FOOD PANTRY
A food pantry is available to help our friends and neighbors in temporary need. Requests for food are made through the St. Vincent De Paul Society (ext. 134). Volunteers assist in preparing food reuests. Those needing help are asked to pick up their completed request at the the St. Barnabas Food Pantry located in the Rectory - the garage is clearly marked Food Pantry and St. Vincet dePaul. 732-269-2208 Ext 134
3. INTERFAITH HOSPITALITY NETWORK (IHNOC)
This is part of a national, non-profit, interfaith ministry committed to uniting the county religious communities and providing shelter, meals, and assistance to homeless families. Currently there are about a dozen congregations that operate as host sites for a maximum of fifteen people. St. Barnabas Parish functions as a support parish. We provide volunteers for St. Paul Lutheran Church in Beachwood. These volunteers are trained by the Interfaith Community. Compassion, acceptance, and a willingness to help provide a safe haven is offered while IHNOC guests seek employment and/or affordable housing. Volunteers make a commitment to serve about four times a year to provide a meal, a listening ear, and a safe environment. Ext. 311
4. PARISH COMMUNITY NURSING MINISTRY
This program is a health care ministry for St. Barnabas Parish. The ministry encourages each individual’s spiritual, physical, emotional, and social well-being in the context of their relationship with God, family, and neighbors. The program is rooted in the mission of the church which calls us “to go out and preach the kingdom of God and to heal (the sick).” Luke 9:2. It attempts to recognize God’s desire that we achieve abundant life and reaffirms and supports our journey to wholeness. Through this program we seek to develop creative ways to address needs and identify resources which will help to nurture the body, mind, and spirit of all. The team consists primarily of licensed nurses, other members of health care professions, and anyone interested in participating in activities related to the promotion of health within the parish. Our Nursing volunteers can help you by taking blood pressure, discuss health problems, referals, insurance questions and much more. The Nursing Office is located in Rectory -

5. RESPECT LIFE
The purpose is to promote an awareness of respect for life from conception until natural death. This is addressed by providing educational opportunities and by sponsoring activities, which occur on the parish, diocesan, and the national level. We encourage prayer for the preservation of the sanctity of human life. All who are committed to the teachings of the Roman Catholic Church with regard to the life are welcome to join. 6. THE ST. VINCENT DE PAUL SOCIETY
This is a Catholic Lay organization whose volunteers help those who are in need. SVDP help includes any person-to-person assistance that promotes human dignity and integrity. As a reflection of the family of God, SVDP members are drawn from every ethnic and cultural background, age group, and economic level. They form small groups called “conferences” that meet regularly, pray together, and carry out their selected charitable works. The international St. Vincent de Paul Society is united by a common philosophy and mutual sharing. Volunteers are always needed and welcome. Some training is required and provided. Requests are handled on a case by case basis. If you are in need of food or financial assistance or would like to volunteer, please call 732-269-2208 Ext 134 .

SUPPORT MINISTRIES
1. ANNULMENT ADVOCATES
Parishioners trained by the Diocesan Tribunal are available to assist those wishing to pursue the annulment process. Each request is as unique as the persons who entered the marriage. The deeper understanding that can come from an honest and searching study of one’s broken marriage can heal wounds and hurts profoundly. An annulment may bring about spiritual closure to the past, permit the con-validation of a present marriage, or provide part of the solid foundation for a lasting and successful marriage in the future, For information, accurate facts, and appointments call the special private line through the parish office. 2. BEREAVEMENT SUPPORT GROUP
This support group provides a safe environment for the bereaved; 1) to share their pain 2) to gain insight and healing through self awareness and education and 3) to come to a greater acceptance their loss and situation. When a new group comes together a calendar is set up for the convenience of the majority of participants (e.g. mornings or evenings). The group meets once a month. Pre-registration is usually required to determine if the person is ready to participate in such a group.

3. CAMILLUS VISITOR PROGRAM
The Camillus Visitors are volunteers who visit our handicapped, sick, and homebound parishioners. The purpose of this group is to provide a spiritual connection between our parish community and those who are unable to participate in our services and activities. Meetings are bi-monthly on Thursdays at 1:15 PM in the spiritual center. Ext. 128
4. PRISM
A support group for single parents and step parents. A 12 week program is offered for your help. See Rainbows web site. Ext. 128
5. COMFORT MINISTRY
Members of the Comfort Ministry contact and meet with the family of a deceased parishioner to help them plan the Funeral Mass. They help select readings and hymns and encourage the family to participate in the Mass (by reading the Scripture and/or bringing the offertory gifts to the altar). When needed, the members will assist at the Mass and aid the family in any way they can. The Ministry meets whenever there is a need to do so. 6. PASTORAL COUNSELING
Various forms of individual and/or family counseling are available. Gerry Bowden, MSW, EXT. 328, is available for counseling in the evenings and on Saturday mornings by appointment and Dan Waddington, MA, ext. 117, is also available by appointment. The Patoral Counseling Center is located in the Parish Rectory. Polices will be provided upon request. Ext. 117
7. THE ELIZABETH MINISTRY
This ministry is dedicated to the support and well being of women during their childbearing years. It is an outreach in which women help other women during a time of pregnancy, birth, adoption, or infant crisis. The program provides support to those who are suffering the pain of miscarriage, infertility, or failed adoption. Women volunteer to become ministers in the areas they have experienced such as multiple births, adoption and difficult pregnancies. This ministry is open to all women of childbearing age. There will be an information/organizational meeting in June but all other correspondence will be by phone so that busy volunteers can still participate as much or as little as possible. 732-269-2208 EXT. 331 






8. RAINBOWS FOR GOD’S CHILDREN
The largest world-wide organization dedicated to helping youth cope with loss and grief is offered by trained facilitators in small, confidential groups. Empathetic listening skills and activities heal grieving hearts. It does not have to hurt forever. It is a free twelve week course. See www.rainbows.org or www.rainbowsnj.org. Ext. 128
9. MINISTRY TO SEPARATED, DIVORCED, REMARRIED
This is group founded to provide hope and support to all who have experienced the trauma of divorce and separation. By sharing our feelings and experiences with each other and with trained facilitators the journey of healing begins. We address the religious, emotional, financial, and parenting issues relative to separation, divorce, and remarriage. Through conferences, seminars, workshops, speakers, and social events we eliminate many myths, make known Christ’s abundant love. We meet on Thursdays from 7:15-8:45 in Room 5-A (The Adult Formation Lounge) in the Annex. There are no fees, confidentiality is maintained. We are members of the North American Conference of Separated and Divorced Catholics, Region 3. Refer to www. nacsdc.org for international and regional news and events.

YOUTH MINISTRY
1. B.A.T.S and JR. B.A.T.S
Our Youth Ministry, the st. Barnabas Active Teens (B.A.T.s), provides an opportunity for the teens of our parish to come together with other teens who share the same faith. We are not a CCD or school-like program. There are no books or homework! We focus on having fun, meeting new people, and growing in our faith as teenagers. Our activities include group discussions about many different topics (these are decided by the group), attending concerts, service projects, conferences, and dances. We meet on most Sunday nights from 6:00 to 8:00 PM. All junior and senior high school teens are welcome. There is no fee and no long term commitment is required to attend. Just show up any time and check us out!!
We have two different st. Barnabas Active Teen groups. The junior B.A.T.s is tailored to the needs of 7th and 8th graders. The senior B.A.T.s is for all high school aged teens. The two groups are distinct and therefore appeal to the needs of the different ages. We look forward to meeting you!!! Ext. 127
2. SCOUTS
Boy and Girl Scouting is a voluntary movement dedicated to the purpose of inspiring boys and girls with the highest ideals of character, conduct, patriotism and service so that they may become happy and resourceful citizens. St. Barnabas provides meeting space for Girl Scouts in the community. Ext.100
3. TEEN DANCE PROGRAM
This dance program is intended to provide and chaperone monthly community teen dances for students in the sixth, seventh, and eighth grades. The dances are planned and supervised by parents with children attending Catholic School. They are held on one Friday of each month from 7:00 PM to 10:00 PM in the Spiritual Center. There is a $5.00 entrance fee and refreshments are available for purchase. It is a time for teens to gather in a safe environment and have lots of fun. Ext. 100
